Ultrasound Poem

How long did it take you to get over the emotional damage of a miscarriage?
I’ve posted a few times since my miscarriage on March 29th. I was 16 weeks along (I thought I was only 15 weeks). I suffered full labor and delivery and I’m just heart broken. I don’t want to get out of bed. My nights are easier than days. I’ve been talking to other women who just recently suffered miscarriages and are also in the same boat as me emotionally. I got to hold my baby for a few momments and we were given a lovely memory box with pictures of him, hand and foot prints, along with some touching poems. I gathered all of my ultrasound pictures as well as my positive pregnancy tests (yes, I saved them). I just look at the collection of memories and weep. I read the bible a lot and it has helped. My husband has been fabulous through this. And I have two beautiful children who help me smile and laugh. I want to get pregnant again so badly but we have to see what our specialist says is wrong with my uterus before we further our family planning. Ugggg…
OK I had to get it out.
You never fully get over it, but in time, it does get easier.
I m/c in Jan 2002 and luckily was pregnant by March. She was a spontaneous m/c. I’ve had 3 healthy kids since then, which help.
You’ll have good days and bad days. Soon you’ll get through a whole day without crying.
What helped me most in the beginning was I got a necklace with a birthstone kid on it so she was always near me.
Also, I became a member of SHARE, I have awareness ribbon stickers on my cars, and I’ve been designing a tatoo that I want to get in her memory.
Here’s the link to SHARE if you want to take a look. They’ve helped me get through some rough times.

Ultrasound Imaging $209 Diagnostic and Therapeutic Ultrasound has recently taken an explosive growth for better safer, economic, mobile and high quality healthcare. This technology is very appealing for medical applications because it is non-ionizing, non-invasive and it is available in most of the medical and clinical facilities. Its low cost, when compared with other medical image modalities, makes it one of the preferred tools for medical monitoring, follow-up and diagnosis. Besides the traditional fields of Cardiology and Obstetrics, where it is extensively used for long time, it has became also very useful in the diagnosis of diseases of the prostate, liver and coronaries and carotids atherosclerosis. However, Ultrasound images present poor quality, very low signal to noise ratio and a lot of artifacts. The extraction of useful information from Ultrasound data for diagnosis is a challenge task that makes this medical image modality a very active field of research. The difficulties are being overcome and novel and advanced methods are being proposed for detection, characterization and segmentation of abnormalities in several organs. In fact, Ultrasound application range is vast, covering almost all organs of the human body, including the brain where Tran-cranial Doppler Ultrasound is very important to assess the brain vasculature. This book presents some of the recent advances in Ultrasound imaging technology covering several organs and techniques in a Biomedical Engineering (BME) perspective. The focus of the book is in the algorithms, methodologies and systems developed by multidisciplinary research teams of engineers and physicians for Computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) purposes. Cardiovascular and Cancer, the most common life-threatening diseases in western countries, are two of the most important topics focused in the book. However, other advanced issues are also presented such as Intravascular Ultrasound, 3D US and Ultrasound in Computer-Aided Surgery (CAS). Some chapters are direct contributions from medical research groups where Ultrasound has also received great attention in the last decade. By this, new techniques based on Ultrasound were introduced in the clinical practice for diagnosis and therapeutics, mainly in hospital facilities. |

Intravascular Ultrasound $89.22 Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) is a medical imaging methodology using a specially designed catheter with a miniaturized ultrasound probe attached to the distal end of the catheter. The proximal end of the catheter is attached to computerized ultrasound equipment. It allows the application of ultrasound technology to see from inside blood vessels out through the surrounding blood column, visualizing the endothelium (inner wall) of blood vessels in living individuals. The arteries of the heart (the coronary arteries) are the most frequent imaging target for IVUS. IVUS is used in the coronary arteries to determine the amount of atheromatous plaque built up at any particular point in the epicardial coronary artery. The progressive accumulation of plaque within the artery wall over decades is the setup for vulnerable plaque which, in turn, leads to heart attack and stenosis (narrowing) of the artery (known as coronary artery lesions). IVUS is of use to determine both plaque volume within the wall of the artery and/or the degree of stenosis of the artery lumen. Author: Miller, Frederic P./ Vandome, Agnes F./ McBrewster, John Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 104 Publication Date: 2009/12/24 Language: English Dimensions: 5.98 x 9.01 x 0.24 inches |

Microbubbles and Ultrasound $170.47 Microbubbles have been used for several decades as ultrasound contrast agents in diagnostic ultrasound imaging. However, their application in gene therapy as delivery vehicles has only recently been realised. The presence of microbubbles in close proximity to cells during ultrasound insonation can increase the efficacy of drug or gene delivery by inducing sonoporation. In this research project, experimental inhouse microbubbles were used in order to establish the exact parameters that lead to sonoporation. Confocal imaging and 3D reconstruction indicated the structure, morphology and sizedistribution of these membranebound microbodies. Subsequently, cells were grown in an acousticallytransparent parallel membrane environment, where delivery of molecules of various sizes, in the presence of both inhouse and Definity microbubbles was investigated. The acoustic parameters were established for achieving sonoporation with the aid of a clinically relevant scanner in the presence of commercially available Definity microbubbles. Multimodal Integration of Medical Ultrasound $134.33 Ultrasound is a popular, costeffective and noninvasive medical imaging modality. If an ultrasound probe is equipped with a 3D position sensor, the acquired images can be obtained in their spatial context, a technique commonly denoted 3D freehand ultrasound. Combining ultrasound and a preoperative Computed Tomography (CT) scan of the same patient can be beneficial for a number of clinical applications. The core of this thesis is the development of novel methods for fully automatic alignment (i.e. registration) of 3D freehand ultrasound and CT data, based on the image content and the physical properties of both modalities. Furthermore, we introduce new techniques for 3D freehand ultrasound calibration and reconstruction, as well as visualization of fused CT and ultrasound data. Two clinical applications are investigated in detail. We use a designated version of an automatic registration algorithm to integrate diagnostic ultrasound into radiation treatment planning for head and neck cancer. Different methods are applied, in the context of treating liver and kidney metastases, for fusing CT with both diagnostic and interventional ultrasound of the abdomen. While diagnostic fusion helps doctors to assess indeterminate lesions in those organs, interventional fusion using our techniques allows for advanced imageguided navigation, in particular, for needle biopsies and radiofrequency ablations. Ultrasound for Characterizing Colloids $238 Two key words define the scope of this book: ‘ultrasound’ and ‘colloids’. Historically, there has been little real communication between disciples of these two fields. Although there is a large body of literature devoted to ultrasound phenomenon in colloids, there is little recognition that such phenomena may be of real importance for both the development, and application, of Colloid Science. From the other side, colloid scientists have not embraced acoustics as an important tool for characterizing colloids. The lack of any serious dialogue between these scientific fields is the biggest motivation behind this book. For colloidal systems, ultrasound provides information on three important areas of particle characterization: Particle sizing, Rheology, and Electrokinetics. This book primarily targets scientists who consider colloids as their major object of interest. As such we emphasize those aspects of acoustics that are important for colloids, and thereby neglect many others. On the other hand, scientists working with ultrasound who are already familiar with the subject will find several important new developments. |

Ultrasound for Medical Therapy Devices $28.12 Scholarly Essay from the year 2010 in the subject Biomedical technic, printed singlesided, grade: , (Jade University), language: English, abstract: The ultrasonic therapy appertains to the procedures of the Physical Therapy. It is a part of mechanical therapy, because ultrasound consists of acoustic waves (longitudinal, wavelike spreading of smallest pressure variations of a medium as for example air or liquids) with a high frequency. In addition the ultrasonic therapy can be used as thermotherapy. The ultrasonic therapy is also, in the widest sense, a form of the electrotherapy. This justifies itself, because the ultrasound is being obtained from electric energy. The therapy form is used particularly with chronically degenerative illnesses of the human movement apparatus. This abstract shall give a basic overview of the ultrasound and of the transfer chain; from the ultrasound to the human skin. The Effect of Ultrasound on Electrochemical Processes $187.99 The effect of ultrasound on dye degradation and the anodic behaviour of copper was studied. Dye degradation was studied by bulk sonolysis and bulk electrolysis of aqueous solutions containing three model dyes. Electrolytic dye degradation was achieved using potassium chloride, potassium sulphate, and potassium nitrate as electrolytes. Electrochemical degradation was fastest using potassium chloride since chlorine and hence hypochlorite (bleach) were generated during electrolysis. Ultrasound was found to degas chlorine and this resulted in slow sonoelectrochemical degradation rates. This was not the case when potassium sulphate and potassium nitrate were used as electrolyte and the sonoelectrochemical process revealed a synergistic effect of ultrasound and electrochemistry during dye degradation. This synergistic effect was a result of the improved mass transport during sonication. The electrochemistry of copper was studied by anodic polarisation of a copper electrode and the effect of ultrasound upon the voltammetry and chronoamperometry of copper was established. Anodic dissolution of copper was found to be promoted by sonication.
