How long does pink eye live on toys?

I know we need to clean my child’s toys since he has pink eye…but out of curiosity, how long does it live “without an eye”? If he plays with blocks, i dont wash them, and a month later he plays with them again…can he re-catch pink eye?

A month is probably long enough. But what you could do is get antibacterial wipes and just wipe them. If the blocks were made of plastic as opposed to wood, you could dunk them in bleach for a couple seconds and then rinse them off.

I don’t know how long conjunctivitis bacterium lasts without a host, probably not long being in the dry, open air away from a warm body. But I’d be careful considering that PE is a pain to deal with, requires prescription antibiotics to get rid of it, and is highly contagious. I’ve been infected enough times to treat it like the plague and wash as much as I can.
