when did your child start sleeping in a toddler bed?

How did you know when he or she was ready. I’m not sure about our daughter yet- at 19 months old she still wakes up a couple times a night and is still in our bedroom (not by choice). But her cousin is a couple weeks younger than her and they’re trying to get her to sleep in a toddler bed. Our daughter probably won’t have her own room for a few more months, should we wait?

I put my daughter in a toddler bed at 13 months.. she was in the same room as I and it worked just fine. Of course it takes some time to train your child to stay in her bed but repetition and discipline it will work. My daughter would get out of her bed in the middle of the night and want to come into mine but I would not let her. I just picked her up and put her back in her bed. You will probably have to do this a few times a night but she continues to wake up in the morning in her “big girl” bed then she will understand. One thing i would recommend though, when she gets out of the bed, don’t talk to her..or turn on any lights.. the talking and lights will start to wake her up then getting her back into bed will be a big challenge.. Have your daughter pick out her own bedding too… that way she will be almost proud to sleep in her bed!! Good Luck!!
