Name Poem

Can I use the name of a poem for the title of a story I’m writing?
I’ve felt inspired to write a story about soldiers on the front line during WWI recently, and was wondering whether I’d need any copyright to use the name of a poem — probably a Sassoon or Wilson poem — for my title?
Titles are not protected under copyright (poem titles are included). You could even use a line from a poem as a title (such as Chinua Achebe’s title, Thing’s Fall Apart from the William Butler Yeats poem the Second Coming or Where Late The Sweet Birds Sing by Kate Wilhelm, which is also a line in Shakespeare’s sonnet 73)

A Poem Traveled Down My Arm: Poems And Drawings $8.59 In this illuminating book, Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist and acclaimed poet Alice Walker reveals her remarkable philosophy of life. Curiously, this labor of love started with the author’s signature: Faced with the daunting task of providing autographs for multiple copies of one of her poetry collections, Absolute Trust in the Goodness of the Earth, Walker turned an act of repetition into an act of inspiration. For each autograph became something more than a name: a thoughtful reflection, an impromptu sketch, a heartfelt poem. The result is this spontaneous burst of the unexpected. A Poem Traveled Down My Arm is a lovely collection of insights and drawings by turns charming and humorous, provocative and profound that represent the wisdom of one of today’s most beloved writers. The essence of Walker’s independent spirit emanates from words and images that are simple but deep in meaning. An empowering approach to life…the inspiration to live completely in the moment…the chance to nurture one’s creativity and peace of mind all these beautiful elements are evoked by this unusual and original book. From the Hardcover edition. |

The Kalevala: The Epic Poem of Finland (Dodo Press) $44.19 The Kalevala: The Epic Poem of Finland is a book and epic poem which the Finn Elias Lnnrot compiled from Finnish and Karelian folklore in the 19th century. It is held to be the national epic of Finland and is traditionally thought of as one of the most significant works of Finnish language literature. Karelians in the Republic of Karelia and other BaltoFinnic speakers also value the work. The Kalevala is credited with some of the inspiration for the national awakening that ultimately led to Finlands independence from Russia in 1917. The name can be interpreted as the lands of Kaleva. The epic consists of 22,795 verses, divided into fifty cantos or chapters. Finnish folk poetry was first written down in the 1670s, followed by a few collectors during the next centuries. The poetry was usually sung to tunes built on a pentachord, sometimes assisted by the kantele (a kind of fivestring zither). The rhythm could vary but the tunes were arranged in either two or four lines consisting of five beats each. Sometimes the poems were performed antiphonally, sometimes they were a part of a singingmatch between knowers of the tradition. The End of the Poem $9.99 In The End of the Poem , Paul Muldoon, “the most significant English-language poet born since the Second World War” ( The Times Literary Supplement ), presents engaging, rigorous, and insightful explorations of a diverse group of poems, from Yeats’s “All Souls’ Night” to Stevie Smith’s “I Remember” to Fernando Pessoa’s “Autopsychography.” Here Muldoon reminds us that the word “poem” comes, via French, from the Latin and Greek: “a thing made or created.” He asks: Can a poem ever be a freestanding, discrete structure, or must it always interface with the whole of its author’s bibliography–and biography? Muldoon explores the boundlessness, the illimitability, created by influence, what Robert Frost meant when he insisted that “the way to read a poem in prose or verse is in the light of all the other poems ever written.” And he writes of the boundaries or borders between writer and reader and the extent to which one determines the role of the other. At the end, Muldoon returns to the most fruitful, and fraught, aspect of the phrase “the end of the poem”: the interpretation that centers on the “aim” or “function” of a poem, and the question of whether or not the end of the poem is the beginning of criticism. Irreverent, deeply learned, often funny, and always stimulating, The End of the Poem is a vigorous and accessible approach to looking at poetry anew. |

Saved By A Poem $9.29 In these times of global and personal uncertainty, why turn to poetry? In Saved by a Poem, Kim Rosen reveals how a poem can be a companion through difficulty acting as a guide when we are lost; a salve when we are wounded; and a conduit to insight, freedom, and joy. Since Kim understands that many avoid poetry because they are intimidated or "just don’t get it," she offers a new way to experience a poem. She rejects the traditional academic approach and encourages you instead to feel the poem as an affirmation or prayer that brings every level of who you are your thoughts, feelings, and even your physical energies into alignment with what matters most. This can help you gain deeper insight into your life and may just inspire a profound transformation. Kim weaves her story with those of people around the world who use poetry to light a path through the darkest moments. She teaches how to select a poem with personal significance, how to find your voice, and how to free your expression from fear and habit. Speaking poetry aloud brings its medicine to all who hear it dissolving separation, fostering truth, and awakening the heart.CD NOT INCLUDED. |

Poetry’s Name Is Corinda $7.79 My poems are a constant edging, loving, caring war as I would describe them. One poem in particular is Souls as One, that poem I thought was the best out of all of the poems Ive written. It describes ones love for another and all of the possibilitys as to what they can become. Functioning as a single organism, Souls attached. Not all my poems are as loving as that one. Most of them are edging as in darkness, for instance Venom. It takes you on a journey where you feel like you have lost your sense of being, and it has you focused on that subject alone. Majority of these poems are in fact edging, mainly because to focus on the light side for so long, taking you into the darker areas of earth youll be surprised at what you find. A poem that gives off a sense of caring is I can see you, as much as I want you to see me! Which talks about ones personal feeling expressed through a tone that can be recognized anywhere. Showing so much care and trust to another as the other one shows it back, she/he spills all of their secrets and information. With all of the love and care, also edge to these poems there is surely much, much more to explore. One reason is because the earth revolves around the sun! |

Vultures (Poem) $100.37 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Vultures is a poem by Chinua Achebe. The poem is roughly divided into three sections. The first of these observes two vultures as they scavenge for food amongst human remains before resting up with each other as mates. The second section follows the Commandant of Belsen as he buys sweets for his beloved offspring. Both of these support the observations in the final section which ruminates on how even in the most evil person, love can take shape, whereas in every love there is the smallest speck of evil. The underlying philosophical question of the poem is Should we rejoice at the presence of good in the least likely of places, or despair at the fact that it the very presence of this good that allows for the perpetuity of evil?. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 162 Publication Date: 2010/08/14 Language: English Dimensions: 6.00 x 9.02 x 0.37 inches |

The Poem of a Life $30 The Poem of a Life is the first critical biography of Louis Zukofsky, a fascinating and crucially important American modernist poet. It details the curve of his career, from the early Waste Land -parody “Poem beginning ‘The’” (1926) to the dense and tantalizing beauties of his last poems, 80 Flowers (1978), paying special attention to the monumental, complex, and formally various epic poem “A” , on which Zukofsky labored for almost fifty years, and which he called “a poem of a life.” Zukofsky was a protégé of Ezra Pound’s, an artistic collaborator and close friend of William Carlos Williams’s, and the leader of a whole school of 1930s avant-garde poets, the Objectivists. Later in life he was close friends with such younger writers as Robert Creeley, Paul Metcalf, Robert Duncan, Jonathan Williams, and Guy Davenport. His work spans the divide from modernism to postmodernism, and his later writings have proved an inspiration to whole new generations of innovative poets. Zukofsky’s poetry is oblique, condensed, and as fantastically detailed as the late writings of James Joyce, yet it bears at every point the marks of the poet’s life and times. |

Poem A Day $5.99 Like its predecessors, Poem a Day: Volume 3 offers a verse for each day of the year (including February 29) along with brief, often amusing, always interesting anecdotes about the poets and their poems. The original “Poem a Day” was the brainchild of Englishman Nicholas Albery, a colorful and charismatic figure whose interests ranged from social inventions to a greener environment. He had already commenced work on this volume when he died tragically in a car crash. A foundation was created in his memory, and his friends and colleagues at the Nicholas Albery Foundation completed the work. |

Written Poem $130 This text discusses the visual and graphic conventions in contemporary poetry in English. It defines contemporary poetry and its historical construction as a "seen object" and uses literary and social theory of the 1990s to facilitate the study. In examining how a poem is recognized, the interpretive conventions for reading it and how the spacial arrangement on the page is meaningful for contemporary poetry, the text takes examples from individual poems. There is also a focus on changes in manuscript conventions from Old to Middle English poetry and the change from a social to a personal understanding of poetic meaning from the late 18th through the 19th century. |

The Passion Poem $8.99 “May the peace of God guard and keep you in the testimony of Jesus Christ. The book you have in your hands was written over the course of six years. Part of the reason that it took so much time to write is that I am disabled with bi-polar manic depression and hyper compulsive disorder. At the time of this writing I am still receiving counseling from my psychiatrist, Dr. Robert Roddy, who has worked with me for many years to help me become stabilized. I wrote this poem as an expression of gratitude for what the Lord has done for me and to give tribute to Christ for his passion. It is the love of Christ that has saved me from a life of extreme trail and struggle. I would like to thank you my pastor, Steve Gilman, for helping to shape the poem into what it is today. When I first wrote the poem it rhymed, but had no meter, so Pastor Gilman helped me to put it into the metered verse that you find in this final version. Finally, it is my hope that others with disabilities who read this may come away with a renewed sense of possibility. Christ has worked with me through my disability and gives me hope. My prayer is that you will come to know that hope for yourself.John KearneyJohn Kearney lives in St. Paul, Minnesota. He attends both First Baptist Church and Mercy Seat Lutheran Church. In his free time he loves to ride his bike and spend time with his grown daughters. This is his first book.” |

The Dying Poem $14.95 On the afternoon that two tonnes of explosives are set to dismember Toronto's Metropolitan Library, poet Henry Black hides himself away in his favourite wing; when his mangled body is uncovered, there's a book lodged in his chest. Jay Post, a hapless filmmaker, is hired to chronicle the life, death and writings of the poet. In the process of making his documentary, Jay must try to unravel the threads of Henry's labyrinthine, suicide-obsessed mind with only the poems as tools; he must also contend with two of Henry's sometimes lovers, Luisa, a Mexican violinist, and Dee, a feminist writer now living on a farm in the Annapolis Valley and writing a novel about Catherine the Great. The Dying Poem will take you through stories within stories in search of the mystery behind Henry's artful suicide. And, in the end, the crossing of paths and the difficulty of speaking about the dead tell us something about the making of art and what art makes of us. |

Vladimir Ilyich Lenin: A Poem $46.15 Never have I wanted to be understood so much as in this poem. It is probably the most serious piece of work I have ever done. Written in 1924, Vladimir Ilyich Lenin crowned a long period of preparatory work on this theme. The poet was fortunate to see and hear Lenin on a number of occasions. During the October days of 1917 he saw Lenin in Smolny, the headquarters of the uprising. Later he heard several speeches by the founder of the Soviet state.Mayakovsky not only strove with the utmost fidelity to depict Lenin as an historic figure in his own words, he wrote the poem remaining a poet. In Lenins life and activity he sought solutions to issues that engaged him all his life: man, his destination, his place in the world, his happiness, his struggle and triumph over the tragic in life.He was human as human as anyone…Mayakovsky gave numerous recitals of his poem both at home and abroad. The workers response was heartening, reassuring me in the belief that this poem was needed. The splendid powerful poem on Lenins death made an enormous impression on listeners. Daily Worker, London, 1925 Author: Mayakovsky, Vladimir Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 216 Publication Date: 2003/05/01 Language: English Dimensions: 8.00 x 5.00 x 0.49 inches |

The Poem of the Cid by Anonymous [Paperback] $18.19 El Poema de Mio Cid, or The Poem of the Cid, is the oldest preserved Spanish epic poem, thought to date to before the thirteenth century. The author of the poem is unknown, and there is some debate as to whether it can be attributed to one or many individuals. The story probably began as an oral tradition passed down by generation, recounting the exploits of an exiled soldier during the Spanish Reconquista who regained his honor in battle against the Moorish armies and in conquest of Valencia. The realist tone of the story is unusual for European medieval tales, but lends to an excellent depiction of the politics and conflict between the Moors, Jews and Spanish Christians of the 11th century. The Poem of the Cid has been a beloved work of Spanish literature for centuries, and its timeless themes of national and religious identity, honor, and personal gallantry make it a popular classic today. Author: Anonymous Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 98 Publication Date: 2010/01/01 Language: English Dimensions: 6.00 x 9.02 x 0.23 inches |

The Name $14.99 “Before offering a prayer at the inauguration of President George W. Bush, Franklin Graham was asked by a fellow participant if he intended to pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Graham assured him that he would and encouraged this pastor to do the same. As Graham reminded him, “That’s the only thing we’ve got.” In days of religious confusion and cultural relativism, Franklin Graham reminds us that there are absolutes in the kingdom of God. “The Name” explains the significance of names in the Hebrew culture, centering on the meaningfulness of the name “Jesus.” Chapters focus on the different aspects of power in the Lord’s name, such as “Healing in the Name” and “Salvation in the Name.”" |

Provisionality and the Poem $67.2 Much poetic writing in France in the post-1945 period is set in an elemental landscape and expressed through an impersonal poetic voice. It is therefore often seen as primarily spatial and cut off from human concerns. This study of three poets, André du Bouchet, Philippe Jaccottet and Bernard Noël, who have not been compared before, argues that space is inseparable from time in their work, which is always in transition. The different ways in which the provisional operates in their writing show the wide range of forms that modern poetry can take: an insistence on the figure of the interval, hesitant movement, or exuberant impulse. As well as examining the imaginative universes of the poets through close attention to the texts, this book considers the important contribution they have made in their prose writing to our understanding of the visual arts and poetry translation, in themselves transitional activities. It argues that these writers have, in different ways, succeeded in creating poetic worlds that attest to close and constantly changing contact with the real.Emma Wagstaff teaches French literature at Trinity College, Cambridge. |

A Gringo Like Me $15 Borrowing its title from an Ennio Morricone ditty in the spaghetti western Gunfight at Red Sands, Jennifer L. Knox’s A Gringo Like Me contains poems at once raucous and sexy, tender and high. In favorites such as Hot Ass Poem, Cruising for Prostitutes, and Chicken Bucket, Knox’s speakers appear ornery, hickish, undereducated, misogynist, or worse, but each quirky character manages to elucidate a truth we’re better off knowing, even if we’d rather forget it. At other times, Knox’s lyrical I is downright pretty; in poems like A Common American Name and Freckles she charms. Knox has collected dramatic monologues, personal lyrics, and even plays together in a single energetic volume for a genuinely surprising debut. |

One of the form’s rules is that the verse must contain a double-dactyl name, such as “Higgledy-Piggledy.” This collection substitutes the double-dactyl rhyme with a Latin expression or tag, providing a witty poetic tour through Roman history. Beginning with Aeneas and ending with the last emperors, each brief poem is faced with an original drawing and accompanied by a short piece of tex |

And My Name Is Stories from the Quilt $72.57 Margie Carmichael’s first story collection presents ordinary women with extraordinary skills, gifts and strengths. They live next door or far away, shadowed by fear or absence of recognition. Age, race, and culture come together in the timeless fabric of the Quilt, with craft, patience, and faith connecting the women through the threads of their diversity. Anna tells of life after residential school; Irini reflects on her life in war-torn Afghanistan. In Tansie, two adults survive childhood abandonment. Hilarious Annie Day makes peace with her maleness and lives as female; and Flora offers insight into the lighter side of love, marriage, and death. Featuring illustrations by Dale McNevin, the book is a collaboration that began with an original painting and companion poem first published in the Maritime Centre of Excellence for Women’s Health 2000 Calendar. |

Ariel $24.99 Upon the publication of her posthumous volume of poetry, Ariel, in the mid-1960s, Sylvia Plath became a household name. Readers may be surprised to learn that the draft of Ariel left behind by Sylvia Plath when she died in 1963 is different from the volume of poetry eventually published to worldwide acclaim. This facsimile edition restores, for the first time, the selection and arrangement of the poems as Sylvia Plath left them at the point of her death. In addition to the facsimile pages of Sylvia Plath s manuscript, this edition also includes in facsimile the complete working drafts of the title poem, Ariel, in order to offer a sense of Plath’s creative process, as well as notes the author made for the BBC about some of the manuscript’s poems. In her insightful foreword to this volume, Frieda Hughes, Sylvia Plath’s daughter, explains the reasons for the differences between the previously published edition of Ariel as edited by her father, Ted Hughes, and her mother’s original version published here. With this publication, Sylvia Plath’s legacy and vision will be re-evaluated in the light of her original working draft. |
