My Little Wonder single edge hedge trimmer quit?

While trimming hedges yesterday my trimmer just stopped. Is there a circuit breaker or fuse inside the unit? Little Wonder’s website doesn’t offer much help.

There is usually not a breaker for those type of tools. The motor brushes may have gone bad or its the cord to the unit. Below is a link to a great forum to help you. Good luck

The Seven Wonders of Sassafras Springs

The Seven Wonders of Sassafras Springs

$5.45

When Eben McAllister reads about the Seven Wonders of the World, he longs to escape the small farming community of Sassafras Springs and do some exploring f his own. No one else ever seems to want to leave Sassafras however — not even his best pal, Jeb — and so, for now, Eben figures he’s stuck on the farm with Pa and Aunt Pretty until he grows up. All that changes when his pa, tired of Eben’s moping, challenges him to find Seven Wonders in Sassafras Springs that can stang up to the real Seven Wonders of the World. And if he does? Then Eben will get the adventure he’s been craving for — a trip out West. Eben doesn’t reckon he’ll have any luck — he can’t think of even one thing that would be called “interesting,” let along wonderous, in Sassafras, but he figures he’ll give it a try; there’s nothing else to do in Sassafras anyway. While his mission puzzles and annoys some of his friends and neighbors, Eben perseveres, little knowing that he is in for a big surprise. For what with a singing saw, a floating table, and a truth-telling loom (just to name a few), the Wonders Eben will discover among his neighbors, friends, and family will give him the adventure of a lifetime…without his ever leaving home. Told in a down-home narrative with glimmers of magical realism woven throughout, and illustrated with sumptuous drawings by Matt Phelan, Betty G. Birney’s tale about a boy’s journey of discovery reminds us all that extraordinary things can happen in the most ordinary of places…even in Sassafras Springs.

Can you name…Newton’s 3 laws of motion? The 4 horsemen of the Apocalypse? The 5 pillars of Islam? The 6 wives of Henry VIII?The 7 kinds of plane triangles? The 8 Beatitudes? If you’re not sure about the answers to the above, this is the book for you. A compendium of 101 culturally significant particulars from the fields of mythology, religion, literature, history, science, mathematics, art, and music, What Are the 7 Wonders of the World? is a stimulating fusion of facts and fun that makes for an invaluable reference and an entertaining diversion. Questions are grouped in sections according to the number of items in their answer (all the 3s, all the 4s, all the 5s, etc.), so that the answers are in the form of easily memorized lists. You won’t find Luther’s 95 theses, or the 264 Popes, for example, but you will find everything from the 3 sons of Adam and Eve all the way up to the 24 letters of the ancient Greek alphabet. This clever format lends itself well to quizzing and guessing, which gives it a deliciously sophisticated parlor-game quality. But for those who wish to delve a little deeper, there are thoughtful essays to go with each answer that include fascinating details and place the list in its larger cultural or historical context. Much more than a book of trivia, What Are the 7 Wonders of the World? offers a grand overview of the knowledge needed to appreciate many of the finest things in our cultural and intellectual life. It’s a brilliant plan, if Kemp McAvoy says so himself – and Kemp never hesitates to point out his own brilliance. Kemp is a night nurse for a beautiful but aging movie star in a medically induced coma. And with the help of her agent and a struggling young publisher, he’s concocted a can’t-fail scheme that will make them all rich. Olivia Hayden is about to receive a heavenly visitor – an angel with a message for all humankind. All it takes is a blinding light and little adjustment of her meds, and when she awakes she’ll think it was real – and they’ll have an instant best-selling book. The scheme seems foolproof. All they have to do for it to work is be good angels and stay out of trouble. But Kemp McAvoy has never been good at staying out of trouble – and he doesn’t realize there may be out-of-this-world consequences for impersonating an angel. When an infected bolt of cloth carries plague from London to an isolated village, a housemaid named Anna Frith emerges as an unlikely heroine and healer. Through Anna’s eyes we follow the story of the fateful year of 1666, as she and her fellow villagers confront the spread of disease and superstition. As death reaches into every household and villagers turn from prayers to murderous witch-hunting, Anna must find the strength to confront the disintegration of her community and the lure of illicit love. As she struggles to survive and grow, a year of catastrophe becomes instead annus mirabilis, a “year of wonders.” Inspired by the true story of Eyam, a village in the rugged hill country of England, Year of Wonders is a richly detailed evocation of a singular moment in history. Written with stunning emotional intelligence and introducing “an inspiring heroine” ( The Wall Street Journal ), Brooks blends love and learning, loss and renewal into a spellbinding and unforgettable read. “The novel glitters . . . A deep imaginative engagement with how people are changed by catastrophe.” ( The New Yorker ) ” Year of Wonders is a vividly imagined and strangely consoling tale of hope in a time of despair.” ( O, The Oprah Magazine ) “Brooks proves a gifted storyteller as she subtly reveals how ignorance, hatred and mistrust can be as deadly as any virus. . . . Year of Wonders is itself a wonder.” ( People )

An important step towards a new consciousness that will change the planet.” — Paolo Coelho Have you ever ignored a coincidence — and wished you hadn’t? Have you ever denied the truth of a dream — and wished you didn’t? Have you ever disregarded a hunch — only to regret it? Then you have heard the new language of God. Albert Clayton Gaulden, founder and director of the Sedona Intensive, believes that the new language is God’s mother tongue, the language in which His messages and guidance are expressed. Experiential and laden with messages, the new language isn’t spoken chiefly in words (though sometimes it comes to us that way); it is rich in signs, symbols, wonders, and coincidences. When we open ourselves up to the new language, we can open ourselves to a larger and better life. When we learn to be receptive to the new language, we can begin to understand its unique grammar and rules, and to benefit from its grace. Signs and Wonders is an innovative work that offers practical strategies, anecdotes, case studies, and stories of personal transformation to expand our awareness of the new language. It teaches us how to listen to God and to understand the answers to our prayers, to know if we are on the right track when plagued by worry, doubt, and uncertainty. Focusing on the process that the author uses in his groundbreaking work as director of the Sedona Intensive, Signs and Wonders can help us all to learn how to clear “God’s channel” and to master a new form of communication. “If prayer is about talking to God, the new language is about listening for His answers.

Wonders in the Sky

Wonders in the Sky

$17.99

One of the most ambitious works of paranormal investigation of our time, here is an unprecedented compendium of pre-twentieth-century UFO accounts, written with rigor and color by two of today’s leading investigators of unexplained phenomena. In the past century, individuals, newspapers, and military agencies have recorded thousands of UFO incidents, giving rise to much speculation about flying saucers, visitors from other planets, and alien abductions. Yet the extraterrestrial phenomenon did not begin in the present era. Far from it. The authors of Wonders in the Sky reveal a thread of vividly rendered-and sometimes strikingly similar- reports of mysterious aerial phenomena from antiquity through the modern age. These accounts often share definite physical features- such as the heat felt and described by witnesses-that have not changed much over the centuries. Indeed, such similarities between ancient and modern sightings are the rule rather than the exception. In Wonders in the Sky , respected researchers Jacques Vallee and Chris Aubeck examine more than 500 selected reports of sightings from biblical-age antiquity through the year 1879-the point at which the Industrial Revolution deeply changed the nature of human society, and the skies began to open to airplanes, dirigibles, rockets, and other opportunities for misinterpretation represented by military prototypes. Using vivid and engaging case studies, and more than seventy-five illustrations, they reveal that unidentified flying objects have had a major impact not only on popular culture but on our history, on our religion, and on the models of the world humanity has formed from deepest antiquity. Sure to become a classic among UFO enthusiasts and other followers of unexplained phenomena, Wonders in the Sky is the most ambitious, broad-reaching, and intelligent analysis ever written on premodern aerial mysteries.

Childhood can be an exciting time, full of joyous exploration, new skills, friends, and imaginative play. It can also be very frightening, especially when children have experiences that threaten their feelings of safety and well-being. Even common traumatic childhood events can deeply affect children’s normal healthy development, their self-esteem, and their families. Many behavioral problems stemming from common traumatic events could require years of psychotherapy or medication. That is, they did — until the advent of EMDR. Developed by psychologist Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s, EMDR had already helped thousands of adult clients when Joan Lovett experienced its healing power firsthand. Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is a comprehensive therapeutic approach that helps patients release disturbing thoughts and emotions that originate in traumatic experiences. Experiences can be traumatic in the commonly accepted sense — abuse, disasters, violence — but children may also perceive and respond to more ordinary events as very threatening. A playground accident, the loss of a loved one, school problems, or choking on a piece of popcorn can be a part of growing up. They can also be critical incidents that cause a child to view him- or herself as helpless or powerless, to become fearful, and to develop debilitating behavioral problems. In Small Wonders: Healing Childhood Trauma with EMDR, Joan Lovett, M.D., shares engaging clinical stories — mysteries involving children who present her with puzzling and disturbing behaviors. She imaginatively focuses her knowledge of pediatrics, play therapy, and EMDR to alleviate the real-life ordeals of real-life children. Featuring a foreword by Francine Shapiro, Small Wonders is the most comprehensive and insightful book to explore the potential of EMDR for child therapy. This enlightening book is intended for parents who are concerned with having their children feel confident, for adults who want insights into the way the events of their childhood shaped their self-image, and for professionals who want to know more about EMDR and how it can be adapted to meet the special needs of traumatized children.

An Incisive Account of the Bizarre, Often Bewildering Art World of Today Arthur Danto’s new collection finds him, and the art world, at a point when the art world has become pluralistic, even chaotic-with one medium as good as the next-when the moment for “next things” has passed. Since 1984, when Danto-already an eminent philosopher–became The Nation’s art critic, he has been one of the foremost theorists of contemporary art’s history and evolution, and at the same time the most incisive and illuminating critic of new work. In his view, the historical development of art reached a kind of zenith in the pop period, most famously with Warhol’s Brillo Boxes. Danto’s five volumes of review essays (all published by FSG) form a kind of chronicle of the art world since the Brillo moment, and a running appraisal of the great variety of significant work made since then. In this new book, he shows how work that bridges the gap between art and life is now the definitive work of our time: Damien Hirst’s arrays of skeletons and anatomical models, Barbara Kruger’s tchotchke-ready slogans, Renee Cox’s nude portrait of herself at the Last Supper. To the obvious question–is this stuff really art?–Danto replies with an enthusiastic yes, explaining, with a philosopher’s clarity and an art lover’s sense of delight, how these “unnatural wonders” show us who we are.

Experience our universe as you’ve never seen it before 13.7 billion years old. 93 billion light-years across. It contains over 100 billion galaxies, each containing hundreds of billions of stars. This infinite, vast and complex Universe has been the subject of human fascination and scientific exploration for thousands of years. The wonders of the Universe might seem alien to us and impossible to understand, but away from the telescopes, the labs and the white coats, Professor Brian Cox uses the evidence found in the natural world on Earth to brilliantly explain the truth of the cosmos. Professor Cox will show how the vast and unfathomable phenomena of deep space can be explained, and even experienced, by re-examining the familiar here on Earth. He is determined to answer the most profound questions we can ask about ourselves and the world in which we live, but in a uniquely understandable way. The laws of light, gravity, time, matter and energy that govern us here on Earth are the same as those applied in the Universe. Using his expert knowledge and his infectious enthusiasm, Professor Cox shows us that if we can understand the impact of these governing laws on Earth it will bring us a step closer to an understanding of our Universe.

When the John Hugh Williams family immigrated to Homer, Iowa, in the 1850s, they had six children, ranging in age from five to twenty. Suddenly land poor, in debt, and caught in the Panic of ’57, they sent their eldest son, James, to Georgia to work and add to the family income. The seventy-five letters collected here represent the family’s correspondence to their absent son and brother. From 1858 to 1861, James’ sisters, brothers, mother, and father wrote to him frequently, each with distinct views on their daily life and struggles. While Mr. Williams wrote most often about money, farming, and moral advice (he was minister in the Church of New Jerusalem, as well as a merchant and farmer), Mrs. Williams commented on her daily chores, the family’s health, the ever-important weather, and her leisure activities, including the contemporary journals and books she read, such as David Copperfield and Jane Eyre. James’ sisters and brothers wrote about many concerns, from schoolwork and housework to games and family celebrations in nearby Webster City. As the letters continue, the affection for the absent James becomes more pronounced. And, as the years go by, the letters touch on more current national trends, including the Pikes Peak Gold Rush and the growing North/South crisis, on which James and his family strongly disagree. James was never to return to Iowa but married and remained in the South, becoming a lieutenant colonel in the Confederate army. Complete with voices both young and old, male and female, This State of Wonders offers a wealth of information about the daily life of an ordinary family on the Iowa prairie. It is a book to be treasured by all Iowans interested in the early life of their state and by all historians looking for a complete portrait of family life on the midwestern frontier.

 A Tallgrass Prairie Alphabet

A Tallgrass Prairie Alphabet

$17.95

STALKS of grass towering over one’s head. Patches of yellow and purple wildflowers as far as the eye can see. Thousands of butterflies fluttering across an ocean of grass. Herds of bison plowing through deep snow. Scenes like this were familiar on the tallgrass prairie that once stretched across America’s heartland. Today, although most of the original prairie has disappeared, hints of its beauty still remain. Illustrator Claudia McGehee brings the glory of the prairie back to life in A Tallgrass Prairie Alphabet. From the yellow stargrass that welcomes springtime to the butterfly weed that attracts summer’s favorite winged visitors, from the horned lark that soars in the fall to the little bluestem that fights its way above the snow–each season unfolds in the vibrant color and vivid details of McGehee’s scratchboard illustrations. Old friends like white-tailed deer and the short-eared owl, as well as the endangered species like the greater prairie-chicken, are all depicted living in harmony within their native habitat. For those wanting to learn more about the wonders of this rich environment, McGehee provides the common and scientific names of all the plants and animals she illustrates. Anyone who has ever seen remnants of the tallgrass prairie–from child to teacher to tourist to prairie enthusiast–will appreciate the passion and warmth that leap from the pages of this beautifully illustrated alphabet book.

The news was doubly interesting to me, because a singular dream of Sunrise in the Moon had quickened my imagination as to the wonders of the universe beyond our little globe, and because of a never-to-be-forgotten experience of mine with an aged astronomer several years ago.

 Bebe

Bebe

BeBe is a good read for parents and families who have a child with Down syndrome or those expecting a child with Down syndrome. This journal, written by Brenda McCall, the grandmother of Bentley Bella Nicholas (AKA BeBe), follows the ups and downs of a little girl”s early life. It chronicles the physical, emotional and spiritual life of BeBe and her family as they pulled together to protect and nurture her.BeBe is not a ”how-to” book, but a story about facing fear with strength, faith and determination against almost insurmountable odds. McCall gives a heart-warming, detailed account of the growth and development of a ”differently abled” child; the giving and receiving of unconditional love between child, family and strangers; and the strengthening of family ties through the experience.BeBe reaffirms that hope and faith can work wonders and that a child with Down syndrome can bring joy to the hearts of those who take the ride with her.
