Please dont be angry..just asking?

Why are mother in the western part of the world (I’m from asia) put their baby to sleep in a different room, alone?

I’m just trying to understand.. Is there any special benefit that we don’t know of?

because in my part of the world, a mother is REQUIRED and EXPECTED to sleep close to their babies either in the same bed or a bassinet in the same room..because we cannot imagine of letting a helpless little baby sleeps alone..usually until the child is 2..

my aunt says that, it is why asian are known for their close knit family, and also family value
and that most westerner are willing to be distant with their parents, talking (what we consider) in a rude tone, because they treasure their INDEPENDANT and PRIVACY at a cost of family value..

because they were not living (sleeping) with their parent during their infantcy? that they learn separate themselves early?

My daughter is 3 months old. She has slept in the same bed as my husband and I since she was 2 weeks old (and was in a bassinett 5 feet from our bed prior to that.) Many women on this side of the world worry more about structure and schedule and their own conveinence than the actual welfare of their children. I have received a lot of criticism from friends and family for sleeping with my daughter… saying that I’m creating a needy baby or spoiling her. I disagree with this. A child has a 50% less chance of dying of SIDS when sleeping in the same room as a parent. A child also is more independent after age 2 when kept close and constantly touched, interacted with, and slept with for the first 2 years.

Us western world women sometimes rush rush rush rush rush. Many try to force their children to reach milestones when they want them to instead of letting the child go at their own pace. Independence and self-soothing is a milestone that should not be forced. It will come naturally when a child is ready… which most always is between 2-3.

I think the rest of the world that wears their baby and sleeps with them has it right! Like I said before, I think women of the western world have a tendency to try to schedule things to be conveinent for them and not go off of the needs of their child.
