Rate my Wife’s baby boutique items please?

Ok, So my wife wants to start a baby boutique and she’s starting on Etsy.com, It’s seems like she has nice stuff, but nothing sells.

I know some prices are a little higher, but keep in mind these are meant to be boutique items. (e.g. fancy bibs are not for everyday use)

Could a few people visit the store and rate her items here so we can know what to work on??

Any ideas constructive criticism??

I know it’s a double post, but not everyone spends their day on yahoo asnswers so I wanted fresh insight.

I agree with many of the points made on here. I’ll give you a run-down of what I saw and how I reacted:

1st) I noticed the pictures were not very professional looking. I would recommend doing to photoshop retouching, and using a white sheet instead of a white textured blanket/sheet. The pattern on the white background made some of the bibs look as if they were already frayed around the edges.

2nd) Some of the bibs seemed as if they were uneven (maybe because of the sewing), and as stated before the material was not nice enough for the price expected. Even though they are cute, it kind of looks like target/walmart quality material which should reflect the price. Just starting out she may want to consider how much it costs her to make each item and then shoot for a smaller cost/price margin until she gets her products out there.

3rd) I would definitely avoid logos unless you have an agreement with the company because that is copyright infringement and you usually have to pay in order to use trademark images. This includes characters such as jack from nightmare before christmas.

Visually: the items are cute but still seem to be rough drafts. I would keep the designs but try to improve the quality by choosing different fabrics and improving on the sewing.

Now for the technical/sale stuff:

1st) Prices were slightly high which normally for boutique items and even some department store items (such as Kohls baby stuff) is to be expected, however the quality of the items does not suit the price. I would either up the quality to keep the price or lower the price to meet the quality.

2nd) I noticed that the descriptions don’t describe the type of fabric used. Some babies have allergies and the parents want to know what the products are made of! Plus, people want to know what they are paying for.

3rd) I would try to polish the descriptions more. Sell your product! I didn’t find the descriptions captivating enough to pay that much.

Sale: I think that the shipping price is really nice so that helps compensate for the higher prices for the products. However, you could up the shipping prices and lower the sale prices for the illusion that things are cheaper.

Overall: I think that she has some cute ideas and could totally pursue this. I’d add a bit more boy stuff or not sell any at all and just specialize in girls since most products are geared toward girls. But in the long run things need to be improved upon in order to be successful. Keep up the good work, do some research, take criticism of potential customers in mind, and make changes as needed. With some improvements and practice your wife could make some money at this!
