baby green iguana is hiding under reptile carpet?
hi i got a baby male green iguana yesterday and he was fine being handled. now when i try to handle him he runs, and whenever hes alone he will hide under his reptile carpet. how can i fix the carpet so he can’t get under it?
First, if its a “baby” iguana you will not know the sex of the iguana until a year of age, unless you have taken your iguana to a herp/reptile vet whom did a test to figure out the sex.

If you just got an iguana yesterday … it is still trying to get used to it’s new environment … it can take a few weeks to a month for it to feel “comfy” in it’s new environment. When iguanas hide under hidings spaces it isn’t so great because they aren’t getting the UVB or heat that they need. You can try to use newspaper or paper towels see if he/she still does it w/ those, or you could try to duck tape the bottom of the carpet. If you use rocks, make sure that they are pretty good sized rocks, little rocks your iguana can possibly lick and swallow which could cause blockage. I would use it under because less possible chance of your iguana eating it. It is typical for a young iguana to run and whip and try to bite the slave/owner, it will take time, the iguana has to trust you before anything.
Have you taken your iguana to a herp/reptile vet to be checked over for mites/parasites? If your bought your iguana from a pet store, I would recommend you going, a lot of iguanas due end up w/ mites from coming from pet stores. Here are a few possible choices for herp/reptile vets:
